🪱Maine Backyard Life
April 1st of 2024 marks my third year in Maine. My Maine Life has been interesting from the beginning. Of course... new environment. New group of people. New backyard visitors. Then again, I hardly had any backyard back in Boise, Idaho. It was basically a gravel backyard because city water is so darn expensive! And when I do get backyard visitors, it's either the neighbor's cat or birds pausing for a few seconds to rest.
But now, my backyard is full of life! And most of them are bugs! And mosquitos!! I cannot fully enjoy my backyard without dousing myself with Ben's (hhhmmm...) I mean, Milo even has a Black Fly Festival in every 1st week of June!
But I cannot complain too much because it is very beautiful once you look past all the mosquito bites and bug protein.

Plus, all I needed to do is cover the swing next to my dad's tree and viola!
I do miss the beautiful sunset in Boise but I guess this one will do.
🛶Onawa Lake and Trestle
One of my favorite fall hike destinations is Borestone Mountain. I'll write a blog about it sometime this fall n this blog but what I want to share on this blog is one of the most amazing views that you will see from the peak of Borestone Mountain.
The trestle measures 1200 feet long and 130 feet high over the Ship Pond stream gorge on the southeast end of Lake Onawa. People would climb and get on the track to check it out but it's really dangerous as it is an active railway. If you're lucky, you can see and hear the train pass by while you catch your breath on top of Borestone Mountain.
While Onawa Lake is about 1,344 acres in size. Its maximum depth is 84 feet and a perimeter of 15.1 miles but it still a good place to kayak as most of the people enjoying their boats or jet skis are "residents of the lake" and are pretty respectful to others.
🏕 Little Jo-Mary Pond Camping
I know I complain about the bugs and mosquitos a lot but gotta bear it to be able to enjoy the Maine outdoors. I will smell like citronella if needed. It'll be ok if I itch for a few days. It is all worth it.

The camping trip at Little Jo-Mary Pond in Katahdin Iron Works (KI) was amazing! KI is a privately owned commercial forest of about 175,000 acres, located between Moosehead Lake and Baxter State Park. It's also known as the North Maine Woods and includes the 100-Mile Wilderness section of the Appalachian Trail.
The trip started with a few on and off rain. But as soon as the sky cleared up...

There is really nothing else to say. The pictures doesn't do justice but you get the gist of it. This was Puu's first time camping. Again... the perfect companion. No.complaints.at.all.
It was just an overnight camping. The next day, we went to Gauntlet Falls which about a mile or two from the campsite.
Where to next, Puu?
We are going home 😍
