From the slopes to the race track
❄️From the Slopes
Last year, my snowmobile was in the shop around the time that we're getting more snow so what did we do? We hit the slopes of Squaw Mountain in Greenville, Maine. Correction: Big Moose Mountain. "Squaw" according to Wikipedia: The English word squaw is an ethnic and sexual slur, historically used for Indigenous North American women. Contemporary use of the term, especially by non-Natives, is considered derogatory, misogynist, and racist.
It's your basic ski resort - you rent, you eat, you buy. No lodging or a bar/deck with a view. Nothing fancy. But the view of the mountain, Moosehead Lake and Greenville is awesome just the same.
The slopes are not to bad and the skiers are not too rowdy. It was a calm, relaxing experience.
This is a 12-mile, all-season trail perfect for cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and maybe spring. Running, hiking, walking and biking in the summer and fall. It's privately owned. They ask for donation to maintain the trails.
The trails are clearly marked for novice, intermediate or experienced outdoorsmen. It's not a busy trail so paying attention is a must. It might take a while to get help if you get hurt.
But there is peace and quiet while you're on this trail. You can actually hear yourself think. You can actually hear every chord of an electric guitar, you can actually hear a podcaster's breath between talking. It is the best place to be contemplate, to clear your head, to relax while burning calories.

And if you can't get enough of the snow but too lazy to drive somewhere... make your own track in your backyard... in your pajamas even!
🏁To the Race Track
And then off we go to Daytona, Florida! You know it! To watch the Daytona 500!

This is a funny one. Lodging and tickets were free, as well as a night of food and booze! I just have to seat through a timeshare presentation for maybe three hours. No big deal. The people selling the timeshare were pretty persistent. They almost got me because the company is worldwide. Meaning I can get timeshare property anywhere in the world! So cool! Whoever thought of timesharing is such a great marketer! The resort was not too bad. I really think it was a great deal, if I don't know any better.
Daytona 500 was not too bad. William Byron won that year. That's all there is to it.
The best part of flying down to Florida was I got to see my daughter! She lives in Tampa and made the two hour drive to Orlando. We met up at EPCOT Theme Park and had a great time despite of the on and off cold rain. Spend time with your love ones as much as you can!!!
And then it's time to go back to good 'ol Maine by way of JFK international airport. New York never looked so... compressed.
Where to next, Puu?
More of our backyard and MA beach! In the meantime, follow my Instagram page, check out my studioBella store or download free stock photos.
And I leave you with this thought from Kurt Vonnegut/The Sirens of Titans of Titans... "What's he think he's gaining compared to what he's throwing away? No wonder he looks sick."
Be inspired. Breath fresh air. Don't just survive. Thrive.
